Project Orion
Time Length: N/A
The goal for Project Orion is to analyze our own skills as a filmmaker, director, writer, musician, etc. We should determine what we lack, what we are good at, and what we can compensate for with each other’s skills (If there are future projects).
How do we do this? By doing what we should be doing. Writing, recording, directing. Doing anything and everything except being stagnant. Choose an effect, transition, Camera shot and try it. Choose an emotion you want to convey through film and try to replicate it.
My current approach is to analyze my favorite films, see how they were made, choose the elements you like, like effects, characters, camera movements, whatever. Analyze it, replicate it, repeat.
Optional plan: Proposal script: The idea of the proposal script is to have an end goal. There are no specific guidelines except to try to make a low budget - short/film.
*Google (Academy Awards) States that a short film is generally 40 or less. *Capstone projects have a limit at 15 minutes.
Summary: Finding out our skills, understanding what we know, and what we don’t know, Figuring out potential projects, Finding out what kind of equipment, software and personal we have at hand. Example: Actors, laptops, sound recorders, etc. Practicing techniques and refining for film/studio production. Example: coping a shots’ composition, framing, and direction. Figuring out lighting, sound design, Building a portfolio if not a network.
